NORFOLK -— A Chesapeake defense contractor faces up to five years in federal prison for paying bribes to public officials.

Federal authorities say 40-year-old Adam White pleaded guilty to a bribery conspiracy charge in U.S. District Court in Norfolk Friday. Sentencing is set for July 11.

According to court documents, White and his business partners paid approximately $3,000 to $4,000 a month in cash bribes to two officials from the Navy's Military Sealift Command in exchange for contracts on various telecommunications projects.

Four other individuals pleaded guilty in connection with the same bribery scheme.
