VA. BEACH - Construction officially begins Monday on 14-story, $89 million office and apartment complex in Va. Beach.
Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA) will be on hand following the 2:00 p.m. groundbreaking for Main Street Tower.
The 794,000-square foot tower will be built on block 11 at Virginia Beach Town Center. There will be nine floors of office space, 288 apartments, businesses on the ground floor and a 950-car parking garage.
Officials say the apartments will open in Fall 2014; the offices should be open a few months earlier and will include Clark Nexsen, PC, the tower's designer. The company said last year that it would move 350 of its 550 employees from Norfolk to Va. Beach.
Hampton University College of Virginia Beach also said it would lease space, allowing it to add 55 new course offerings and increase student enrollment to 350.
