CHESAPEAKE -- Police are searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian in Chesapeake Thursday night.
Authorities responded to the call in the 4300 block of Indian River Road around 10:25 p.m.
The woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a black pickup truck, according to Chesapeake Police spokesperson Leo Kosinski.
The truck kept going and was last seen going eastbound toward Virginia Beach, Kosinski added.
She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A portion of Indian River Road was shut down between Sparrow Road and Macdonald Road for the investigation.
Cassandra Ludwig was working at a fast-food restaurant nearby and notice a woman walking through the parking lot. Moments later, she says, she heard a terrible sound.
"It sounded like a cup getting crushed," Ludwig described. "Then I saw guys shining flashlights, looking at a body, trying to keep people away until the ambulances arrived," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Chesapeake Police Department.
