CHESAPEAKE--Police say a bail bondsman shot a man as he tried to serve a warrant.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Stalham Road around 4 p.m.

Police say the bondsman and the man got into a fight and the bondsman opened fire.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The shooting remains under investigation.

"You can't just shoot somebody because they have a gun on them. You know you have to be in fear of your life, before you would be able to shoot them," explained veteran bondsman Chris Rollins of Family Bail Bonds.

Virginia law states the minimum requirements to become a bondsman is a $900 fee and a 40-hour class.
