6/25 UPDATE: Malicious wounding charges against Joshua Horton were thrown out in court Tuesday, according to Chesapeake Police Officer Kelly O'Sullivan. He has since been charged with murder in the first degree.

CHESAPEAKE -- A man struck in the head during an altercation in Chesapeake on Monday has died from his injuries, authorities said.

According to police, 36-year-old Joshua Horton was involved in an altercation with 29-year-old Steven Musick outside Horton's home in the 4300 block of Fontana Ave. Monday evening.

Horton allegedly struck Musick in the head with an unknown object. The victim was transferred to Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.  Police say the victim died the next day. 

Officials say the two men knew each other.

Horton was charged with malicious wounding and is currently being held in the Chesapeake City Jail without bond.   Upgraded charges are pending.
