HAMPTON -- The official grand opening isn't until October, but it's already treating cancer patients.

There are currentlly 75 people on the list waiting for the non-invasive treatment, which targets only the tumor, sparing surrounding tissue.

The center will eventually be able to treat more than 2,000 patients a year.

It has five treatment rooms, making it the world's largest proton therapy center.
