PORTSMOUTH-- The Coast Guard responded to distress calls Saturday morning for a boat carrying nine people.

Around 10:30 a.m. the Coast Guard received calls via radio that a 38-foot boat was sinking approximately 46 miles east of Ocean City, MD. A Coast Guard air crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. assisted the boaters in distress.

Around 11 a.m., the boat sank. The Coast Guard along with two good Samaritan boats aided in rescuing the nine people in trouble.

A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Station Ocean City, MD took all nine boaters abaord to return to the station to receive emergency medical services.
