Blown fuse causes fire in Newport News home

NEWPORT NEWS -- An electrical short sparked fire that destroyed a Newport News home Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to Rugby Road around 7:20 p.m.

Investigators say a fuse panel in a closet shorted and ignited some combustible materials.

The two adults in the home weren't hurt.

The structure was condemned due to the damage to the electrical system of the home.
