VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach Public School teachers are asking district officials to cancel all remaining makeup days after Feb. 15.
Their concerns are outlined in a statement released Friday by the Virginia Beach Education Association which represents the teachers.
The association claims that the district needed only to make up two instructional days to meet state requirements, one of which was already made up on Jan. 24.
The statement goes on to say that while the teachers recognize the value of the 183-day instructional calendar, the disruption the additional makeup days will cause for them and their students should be considered above all.
"This includes understanding the damaging impact of the current makeup schedule has on employee moral and the impact employee moral has on the quality of education," wrote VBEA President Trenace Riggs.
The association is also requesting the district waive the lost classroom time for high school credit courses
