VIRGINIA BEACH-A Va. Beach teacher has resigned after being charged with having drugs at school.

Police say Tallwood High administrators told the School Resource Officer Tuesday afternoon they thought 40-year-old Christopher James Brydge had the drugs.

Authorities say Brydge, who lives in Norfolk, is charged with Possession With the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Sale of Narcotics On or Near School Property, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police did not say where the items were found.

Va. Beach Schools spokeswoman Jennifer McCarrel told that Brydge worked for for the division from August 2000 to Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. He was an Instrumental music (strings/orchestra) teacher and had been at Tallwood since 2003.

Police stress there's no indication right now that Brydge was selling drugs to students or on the property. The charges are based on the quantity and evidence seized at the time of the arrest, said MPO James Cason Jr.

McCarrel also said a message about the situation will go home to parents tonight.
