Police-involved shooting VB
UPDATE 10/31: Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday as 30-year-old Shane Whitworth.
Police say Whitworth told officers he had weapons in the home and they heard the slide of a firearm being racked. He then ran into the backyard, discharged a handgun and hid under a trampoline.
According to police, Whitworth got a ladder and climbed over a fence. When officers encountered Whitworth they say he was still armed with a handgun. Officers shot Whitworth. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As standard procedure, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation.
VIRGINIA BEACH--Police are investigating a police-involved shooting Wednesday night in Va. Beach.
The incident started as a family dispute around 6:13 p.m. in the 500 block of Chownings Drive.
A woman and child got out of the house safely and the incident turned into a barricade situation, police said.
Spokeswoman MPO Tonya Borman said tactical teams were brought in to try to talk him out of the house. At some point, the man was shot.
His condition wasn't immediately clear and police didn't say whether he had any weapons.
The shooting is under investigation by police detectives, Va. Beach Police Internal Affairs and the Commonwealth's Attorney.
