VIRGINIA BEACH-- Emergency personnel were called to a hotel at 9th and Atlantic Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Friday night for a mass casualty incident.

About 10 teens aged 12 to 14 years old were complaining of severe rashes they received from water in a hot tub or pool inside the Springhill Suites hotel.

Emergency crews treated the teens at the scene and none were transported.  According to Bruce Nedelka of Va. Beach EMS, fire fighters believe a chemical used in the treatment of the water caused the skin irritations.

The incident closed down Atlantic Avenue for about an hour.  The incident is still under investigation.
