VIRGINIA BEACH -- City Council in Virginia Beach received two important updates during a workshop Tuesday afternoon.
The Oceana Air Show will take place this year according to a top local Navy official.
The air show was cancelled last year because of budget cuts, but Capt Kit Chope told council members that the Blue Angels have made a commitment to return this year for the show.
Chope also updated council on the year ahead for Oceana. This includes a project to reconstruct the Dam Neck main gate this April.
He said it will improve security for the base but likely stall traffic during construction on Dam Neck Road.
Council also got an update on a major baseball and softball development near the Sportsplex.
Council members were very receptive to the privately funded $50 million project that would bring a 5,000-seat staidum with an Atlantic League team, along with 13 other lighted baseball fields and four softball fields.
"We would be the only city in this nation to have that congolmeration of baseball and softball facilities literally within a quarter of a mile of each other," said Deputy City Manager Cindy Curtis.
