YORK COUNTY-- An alert passer-by helped foil a business burglary Thursday night.
Around 6:45 p.m., York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a possible commercial burglary in progress at the Bargain Box in the 200 block of Dare Road. An alert passer-by noticed suspicious activity at the closed business and called 911.
Deputies arrived, surrounded the business and were able to find a man inside.
One of the dputies heard what he thought was a suspect leaving the rear of the building and into some woods.
A search ensued and due to the close proximity of the business to Dare elementary school that was hosting several events, the school was placed on lock-down.
The search turned up nothing and Dare Elementary was released from lock-down.
Charges are pending on the man in custody.
This incident and the identification of the second suspect are currently under investigation
