RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control recently awarded five mini grants for alcohol education and enforcement initiatives on Virginia college and university campuses.

The grants, totaling $4,994, will support campus-based educational efforts of student organizations at the College of William & Mary, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, Tidewater Community College and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Funded activities focus on preventing and reducing high-risk drinking behaviors during spring break by promoting healthy choices, social responsibility, collaboration and leadership on campus.

“Spring break is a peak drinking occasion for college students and many students are at risk for experiencing alcohol-related consequences,” said Education Coordinator Danielle Luster. “Virginia ABC created these mini grants to encourage students to be proactive about implementing and enhancing safe activities during spring break. It’s important for them to hear from their peers that they can enjoy spring break without alcohol.”
