NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — One of three Maritime Administration cargo ships that sailed to Haiti after an earthquake devastated the island nation is returning to Virginia waters.
The SS Cape May is due back Friday in Norfolk after delivering relief supplies and military cargo to Haiti. That cargo included equipment used to reopen the damaged seaport at Port au Prince.
The Cape May, the SS Cornhusker State and the M/V Huakai were activated by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration at the request of the Defense Department.
The Cape May is last of the three to return from Haiti.
