Va Tech reports record graduate school enrollment

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech is reporting record enrollment in its Graduate School.

Virginia Tech said Friday that a total 6,947 graduate students are currently enrolled, including 4,114 master's students and 2,833 doctoral students. It's the university's largest graduate class.

Graduate students now make up 22.5 percent of the university's total student population.

The vice president and dean of graduate education says the number of doctoral students has risen steadily. Karen DePauw says more than 40 percent of Virginia Tech's graduate students are doctoral students.

DePauw says the Graduate School has already exceeded its goal of recruiting 900 new students by 2010.
