RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — State health officials say they've allocated a total of 1.2 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine to Virginia sites in their overall campaign to vaccinate people against the so-called swine flu.

State health commissioner Dr. Karen Remley said Thursday that while influenza-related illness has fallen to 5 percent of visits to emergency rooms and urgent-care centers, there are many people who are ill and 27 deaths have now been reported statewide.

Shipments of the vaccine went out this week to colleges and universities, including the University of Virginia, which was holding a vaccination clinic Thursday.

Remley says influenza cases reported this fall are typically H1N1. She says samples taken from patients haven't detected the seasonal flu virus yet.
