Hampton house fire
HAMPTON -- The Red Cross is helping five people who can't stay in their home because of a fire.
Hampton firefighters were called to the 2300 block of Bay Avenue just after 7 p.m. Thursday. They saw flames coming from the ceiling area near the front door and found that the fire had gotten into the attic.
It took about 20 minutes to put the fire out, said Assistant Chief Jeffrey Pereira.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross provided lodging assistance for the residents, said spokesman Rob Shapiro.
