HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — About 400 members of the emergency management community are gathering in Hampton to discuss ways to manage preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

The three-day Virginia Emergency Management Symposium beginning Wednesday will feature discussions by emergency officials that handled several major events.

Officials from Hurricane Sandy, the Boston Marathon bombings and the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse will review lessons they learned from those events.

Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran also is scheduled to address attendees on Wednesday.

The symposium will offer 24 breakout sessions and also will feature a trade show highlighting the latest products and services for emergency managers.
