WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) — The Wildlife Center of Virginia has released four orphaned bear cubs back into the wild.

Center outreach director Amanda Nicholson tells The News-Virginian (http://bit.ly/1lnRLLb ) that the cubs weigh from 92 to 135 pounds. Cubs in the wild usually weigh 40 to 50 pounds.

Nicholson says the extra weight is good for the cubs because they're being released during the winter. They have layers of fat reserves to help them hibernate.

The cubs were released Monday. The center plans to release four more cubs on Thursday and three on Friday.

Nicholson says the cubs are released in groups so they can stay together, if they want to.
