ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — The George Washington and Jefferson national forests are waiving fees to all day-use areas in recognition of the 20th anniversary of National Public Lands Day.
The fee waivers Saturday do not include overnight campgrounds and cabins, group picnic shelters or recreation sites managed by concessionaires. The waiver recognizes the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
Last year, nearly 175,000 volunteers worked at more than 2,000 sites in every state, and the District of Columbia.
The fee waiver will be in effect at the following areas: Bark Camp, Brandywine, Cascades, Cave Mountain Lake, Cave Springs, Crabtree Falls, High Knob, Phillips Creek, Pound Boat Launch, Sherando Lake, Todd Lake and Trout Pound.
