NEWPORT NEWS-The new luxury Paragon City Center 12 opens Thursday with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. and showings of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” at 10 p.m.

The 12-screen theater is located at 11810 Fountain Way in City Center in Newport News.

The theater, the company's second in Virginia, will have luxury leather VIP reclining seats with tray tables and footrests, seven feet of space between rows, expanded concession offerings including beer and wine, two restaurants - My Pi Pizza and The Lot Bar & Lounge - more, according to a news release from the company.

"There will initially be approximately 150 positions between the two restaurants and theater," Niki Wilson with Paragon told WVEC.com.

"Newport News is a beautiful area and we are very eager to provide the finest movie-going experience not only on the Peninsula but in the state of Virginia," stated Michael Whalen, CEO of Paragon Theaters.

Mayor McKinley L. Price said of the development, "Paragon City Center will be a great addition to the entertainment options in Newport News and will transform the movie-going experience on the Peninsula."

Recruiting for the jobs will begin soon and applications can be posted on the Paragon career page. Florida-based Paragon owns, operates, and/or manages seven theaters in Daytona Beach, Jupiter, FL, Deerfield Beach, FL, Coconut Grove, FL, Burnsville, MN, Rochester, MN and Fredericksburg.
