SUFFOLK -- Three families were displaced following an apartment fire in Suffolk Friday night.

Just before 8 p.m., emergency personnel received the call of a fire in the kitchen of an upstairs unit of the complex located in the 100 block of Nancy Drive.

All of the occupents of the apartment were out of the building when rescue crews arrived, according to city spokesperson Diana Klink.

The entire building, consisting of eight units, was evacuated while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

In total, 11 people have been displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
