RICHMOND –Virginia Public Safety Foundation announced an additional 11 Virginia heroes to be honored at the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial upon its completion, including Deputy Sheriff Billy Ray Grimsley of Portsmouth.

Now totaling 843 names of men and women who have died in the line of duty, the roster will be engraved on the memorial when it is constructed at Capitol Square in Richmond this year.

The roster of 11 names released today is comprised of men killed in the line of duty in 2012 and 2013, as well as cases that were still being researched at the time of the release of the initial roster in December 2012 and three subsequent rosters released in March, May, and August 2013.

“Each time we update this roster of heroes, I am reminded of the importance of fulfilling our pledge to complete construction of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial this year,” said Paula Miller, VPSF President and Public Information Officer for Norfolk Sheriff’s Office. “Our hearts go out to the families of these men; we hope that they find some solace in our pledge to ensure their loved ones’ sacrifice is never forgotten.”
