DARE COUNTY -- A couple fought to save their home, but the flames spread too quickly in  Kitty Hawk.
Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday,  crews responded to the house on Ivy Lane.
Officials say a husband and wife were home at the time, spotting the fire from outside. The homeowners tried to put out the flames with a hose, but eventually called 911.
Several emergency agencies came to help, including Duck, Southern Shores, Kill Devil Hills, Colington and Nags Head.  Together, crews got the fire under control within an hour. The home is a total loss, and no nearby residents were damaged.
The homeowners were not hurt. However, one firefighter suffered a shoulder strain while lifting a fire hose. Investigators believe the fire was accidental.
