CHESAPEAKE-A Navy veteran says a new state veterans ID card unveiled isn't delivering on promised discounts at stores and restaurants.

Earl Thompson found out many businesses haven't heard of it. He tried using it at Hardee's, Red Lobster and Burger King.

"When I went to the floor managers, they didn't know. When I went to the regional managers, they didn't know. When I called corporate, corporate didn't even know about it," he said.

The state Department of Veterans Services website states, "For $10, your Virginia Veterans ID card is a convenient way to show proof of your veteran status so you can reap the rewards."

Thompson got his at the DMV.

The program started in May, so state officials say it will take some time for word to spread and for businesses to realize it's a legitimate card.
