Followers of ABC’s The Bachelorette remember Trista and Ryan, who found love in 2003 and got married.

Three years later, the couple is watching out for the hearts of firefighters.  Ryan, you may recall, is a firefighter.

"Studies have shown that more firefighters are dying from heart attack and heart disease than from actual firefighting," said Ryan.

Long hours, hard physical work, constantly-interrupted sleep and lots of good food contribute to high cholesterol.

Ryan’s dad has a history of heart disease; Trista’s grandfather has it, too.

As October is National Fire Prevention Month, they’re urging firefighters in four cities to try the Heart-Smart challenge – eating oatmeal once a day for a month

Ryan says it’s paying off in Denver, where they live.

“They actually had the most significant change. They averaged a 15 point drop in their cholesterol."

As for their marriage, Trista said it’s good.

“We live a quiet life up in Vail, Colorado. He's a firefighter. I'm selling purses. I get to work from home. We're almost to our third anniversary. All is well."
