Don't forget the TDAP booster for back-to-school

VA BEACH -- New clothes and supplies aren’t the only things some students need to get ready for school in September. They need the T-DAP shot.
"I think it's real important, especially them going to start daycare and be around a lot of kids. I think it's really important just to keep them healthy and safe," says Sondra Guillory, who has two young children.
Health officials say lots of children still need to be immunized. With about a week to the beginning of school, parents and children will have to be patient.
"It's been very busy and it's very disappointing because we would have to have 100 nurses to take care of the needs of the people that are waiting until the last minute," says Zelda Hyman with the Va. Health Department.
When school began last year, 2,500 Hampton Roads sixth graders didn’t have the T-DAP booster.
Health department officials don’t expect the number to be that high this year, but they know there will be a lot.
"I think we are going to continue probably through the first or second weeks in September trying to get people the t-dap that's required," Hyman predicts.
