WILLIAMSBURG – The College of William and Mary has disinfected the residence area of Reves Center and a computer lab in Blow Hall after three visitors came down with likely cases of H1N1 swine flu.
College officials say they were notified Sunday night about the illnesses of two counselors and one student participating in a youth enrichment program at W&M.
The three are recovering at home and officials don’t believe the virus spread to others. However, families of participants have been contacted.
Anna Martin, vice president for administration, says the college is working with the va. Dept. of Health.
“We have been assured that the campus community is safe and that the camp sessions may continue. We will continue to monitor the situation,” she stated in a letter posted on the William and Mary Website.
The program consists of six, one-week sessions with different sets of students each week.
According to the Va. Dept. of Health, as of Tuesday morning, there were 249 confirmed cases of H1N1 in the state; in greater Hampton Roads, there are nearly 50 confirmed cases.
