RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More federal dollars are headed to Virginia to help consumers navigate the thicket of the federal health insurance marketplace.
October 1, 2013 - March 31, 2014: Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment startsCoverage can begin as soon as January 1, 2014.
If your employer provides an affordable insurance plan and it meets the minimum value, you will not need to buy insurance from the Marketplace.
You can qualify for a premium tax credit if, based on your income, you fall between 100 and 400 percent of the poverty level.
Because Virginia did not choose to expand Medicaid, approximately 400,000 uninsured Virginians will not qualify for a subsidy to help them buy insurance on the Marketplace.
There is a penalty fee for those who choose not to have health insurance. However, there are a few exemptions.
