VIRGINIA BEACH -- For allergy sufferers, the winter cold spell that spells relief just hasn't this year.

"It never happened, and so a lot of patients who get the winter relief have never gotten it.  And there certainly things pollinating now that aren't supposed to be," said Dr Gary Moss of Allergy and Asthma Specialists in Virginia Beach.

On Thursday, patients were coming in to get their shots and were also getting some advice.

"Avoiding it short-term could help.  Which means even if it is beautiful, rolling up your windows and use the air conditioning or the heat and try to avoid it if you can," added Moss.

Neil Ganey was feeling pretty miserable this week and came in to see Dr Moss for the first time.

"Tend to get a lot of sinus congestion pressure some sore throat.  All around, just not the happiest of times, " said Ganey.

Dr Moss had some more advice.

"Allergy medications over the counter, there are a couple of well tolerated antihistamines that are available.  If they don't work and you are stuffy, you're doctor can prescribe one of the nasal sprays," continued Moss.

Last year when pollen was all over cars in the spring time, Dr Moss' daughter said the only people who like this are car wash owners and allergists.  Likewise this year, there are two groups suffering with this mild winter weather:  those who like to snow ski and those who have allergies.
