CHINCOTEAGUE - Chincoteague residents are being advised to boil tap water or drink bottled water for several hours today because of a water main break and possible bacteria contamination.

Officials say a water main broke near the base of the elevated water storage tank, causing an interruption in water service. They expect repairs to take several hours.

Health officials say boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms in the water that could could result in stomach or intestinal illness.

Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. For more information, call 757-336-6510
