NORFOLK -CHKD and Kohl’s Department stores are teaming up to get children in shape.
Kohl’s FitKids was created as a health–focused outreach effort in the Hampton Roads community. Kohl’s Fitkids provides educational programs and events that address childhood obesity and encourage youth and families to be healthier. There will be community events featuring national speakers, health fairs, and an annual Kohl’s FitKids Coach’s Clinic during this initiative.
One component of FitKids is the Steps to Fitness assembly at elementary schools throughout Hampton Roads. CHKD has teamed up with Quiet Riot, a theater arts group from Pennsylvania, to present the assemblies. The assemblies combine the hospitals research in children’s health and Quiet Riots unique entertainment style to keep the kids involved. The students receive the FitKids – Steps to Fitness publication at the assemblies or through school wellness efforts.
Kohl’s FitKids and the Norfolk Tides have a special event on August 11. It's a night of fun and education about eating well and the importance of exercise and movement. Families will learn about healthy food choices, fitness and sports safety from the outfield video board, resource exhibits on the concourse, and entertainment from CHKD’s Healthy Bear and Riptide.
CHKD kids will throw out the first pitch, sing the national anthem and participate in fun games between innings.
The fun starts at 6:00 p.m. at Harbor Park in Norfolk. For more information, call 757-668-7402.
