(HAMPTON)--Hampton Police have arrested and charged two teenagers in the murder of a 14-year-old boy.
Police says the suspects, 14 and 15 year olds from Newport News, shot Xavier Barringer-Blackney in the chest around 1:30 a.m. Saturday as he stood outside in the 1100 block of East Pembroke Avenue.
Police say the suspects opened fire from a passing van.
Barringer-Blackney was hit once in the chest and died at the hospital.
An officer spotted the van on Mercury Blvd. and tried to pull it over. The driver refused to stop and a police pursuit began. The van crashed near a gas station on Jefferson Avenue and Oyster Point Road.
Both suspects were taken to custody. They are being held at the Newport News Secure Detention.
The murdered teen, a Hampton High School freshman, was recently released from juvenile detention after serving time for stealing a Jeep on June 3, 2006 and going on a joyride with a friend. The Jeep crashed into a Hampton home, killing 33-year-old Michelle Hart, who was watching TV in her living room.
