Hampton Police Friday said they won't release results of a preliminary autopsy done following the death of a popular Hampton businessman

The body of Charles S. "Dick" Hopkins, 82, was found in his business, Hop's Place, Inc. on West Pembroke Avenue near downtown. According to court papers, Hopkins body was found "inside a vat of cleaning solvent" inside the business.

Police searched the business after family members alerted them to his disappearance. Hopkins' routine had him leaving home at 6:00 a.m. and checking in by phone several times a day. When he didn't call by 11:30 a.m., his family got concerned.

Police found his vehicle behind some trees just west of his auto supplies business.

By 11:00 p.m., after searching the buildings on the property, Hopkins body was found.

Hopkins' funeral is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church on Chapel Street in Hampton. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Central United Methodist Church, Hampton Host Lions Club, Wythe Rescue Squad or other city rescue squads, the Gideons or any organization.
