SOUTH HAMPTON ROADS --This time next week the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will be building a brand new home on the southside of Hampton Roads.
Art Newsome Inc. will be doing some of the new HVAC work on the new home. Owner Grant Owens would have a chance to be on national TV. But instead, he has a date with his autistic son Spencer and the Polar Plunge. So Grant will let his employees get all the credit for the home build.
"And we've made a commitment to the people who have donated to us that we're going to go and jump in the water," said Owens. "Sometime around the time that they say move the bus, we will be jumping in the ocean."
Entercomm radio partnered on the build. Chuck Dowd of 94.9 The Point is going to Cox High School Friday to applaud their efforts collecting 1,000 pounds of food for the extreme food drive.
"Together collectively telling their friends, I can't tell you how many people I tried to encourage to give food and these kids at this high school managed to give 1,000 pounds in five days," said Dowd.
Duane Cotton of Trademark Construction is in charge of the build. He is confident everything is falling into place. The only thing that concerns him is a sudden lack of lumber that's available.
"If there is a lumber company available to donate the lumber package as of tomorrow morning, that would be sufficient but having a monetary donation right now is the best way to help this build," said Cotton.
