LOS ANGELES (AP) — Robert Clary of "Hogan's Heroes" fame says he'll be celebrating his 88th birthday this weekend at a dinner out with friends.

Clary said he considers each new day a birthday.

TV viewers still recognize him as Cpl. Louis LeBeau from the 1965-71 sitcom set in a World War II prisoner-of-war camp.

He's been off the screen for more than a decade, staying busy with his family, his hobby of painting and regular gym workouts.

Clary said he's also a voting member of the motion picture academy, with Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio his top picks for Sunday's Oscars.

Clary turns 88 on Saturday. As a teenager, the French-born actor survived the Nazi Holocaust that claimed 12 of his family members.
