Dr. Ella Ward was elected to Chesapeake City Council in May 2006 and re-elected for a second four-year term on May 4, 2010.
She was elected to the Chesapeake School Board in 2000 and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2004.
In January 2003, Dr. Ward was appointed to a four-year term on the Virginia Board of Education by Gov. Mark Warner and re-appointed by Governor Tim Kaine in January 2007.
She was first elected Vice-president of the Virginia Board of Education on February 15, 2006 and re-elected to that position for four consecutive terms.
She supports federal funding for public school construction, making low-interest loans more accessible to small businesses to encourage growth; supports programs to assist veterans; believes the US should develop alternative energy sources.
Ward earned her doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Virginia Tech.
