VIRGINIA BEACH - Members of Va. Task Force 2, the Va. Beach-based search and rescue team, are absentee voting while working up north in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Battalion Chief Tim Riley says the Virginia Beach Fire Department sent a courier to 17 registrar offices from the Eastern Shore to Orange County, NJ to make sure the men and women can legally vote.
“We sent a courier (2 firefighters) with sealed envelopes to our 90 deployed members stationed in NJ,” Riley stated.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency placed Team 2 on alert October 29 and members arrived the next day. They've been searching for survivors and going door to door checking on people who may have been stranded inside their homes.
