What is it  a super absorbent door mat

What does it claim? to absorb dirt, mud and water like magic! Just step to clean. No need to wipe your feet.

Who tested it? Maureen Avan, an employee at Muddy Paws in Norfolk. She works with dogs every day and has two dogs of her own that like to play in the mud.

What Are The Instructions?  The first thing the instructions tell you to do is wash the mat before you use it. That will activate the super absorbent fibers.  The mat should be washed in cold water on the delicate cycle without detergent or fabric softener. It's normal for some shedding of fibers to occur in the first washes.  Then to dry, you can either hang it or tumble dry on low heat. Be sure to remove it promptly from the dryer.  Do not bleach, iron or dry clean your Clean Step Mat.

Once the washing is done, place the Clean Step Mat with the grip side down at a location where you see the most traffic.  There's no need to wipe your feet on the mat.  Just step on it to remove the dirt, mud and water on your feet or your pet's paws.

If it gets dirty, follow the washing instructions and it will ready to go again.

Did it work? Avan was pretty impressed.  She really didn't think it was going to work as well as it did.  Especially since we didn't get to wash it like the instructions told us to do before we tested it out. But still it absorbed a lot of water and a ton of mud - enough to make her give it a thumbs up.

While she said at her job they would probably need to get a lot of them at home, she thought one would work just fine with her two dogs.

Cost/Availability? You can purchase the Clean Step Mat for $19.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond stores.
