Does It Work: Debbie Meyer's Green Bags

10:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 6, 2008

VIRGINIA BEACH  -- Jenn Worden buys fruits and vegetables in bulk to save money.

it can be a race to use them before they go bad, so SHE has high hopes for Debbie Meyer’s Green Bags, which say they'll help keep the food fresher longer.

"Fruit and vegetables contain moisture. If moisture builds in the bag apparently that's part of the whole deal, no moisture,” Worden read on the box.

The product advises her not to use twist ties because they could make holes in the bag.

So, she green bagged strawberries, tomatoes, bananas, nectarines, broccoli and lettuce.

Then she looked at them two-and-a-half weeks later.

"I think the refrigerator stuff did better, did definitely better than the stuff sitting out,” she noted.

Of all the items Worden put in Debbie Meyer’s Green Bags, she was only happy with the broccoli. But she admits she didn’t wipe away excess moisture if it appeared in the bags.

"That's a really lot of maintenance that I wouldn't do anyway," she explained, adding she didn’t think the product worked.

“I was really hoping they would do what I thought they were going to do," she noted. "Do not waste your time. Do not waste your money.  Very high maintenance. No. No."

Debbie Meyer’s Green Bags come in a pack of 20 for $9.99.
