RICHMOND -- Peach growers say this year's crop will be, well, just peachy.
The rain in spring boosted the fruit's growth, creating good-sized peaches. That, coupled with recent hot weather, has made this year's crop especially sweet, growers say.
Peaches are grown mostly in the Southwest part of the state and in the mountains because of the cooler climate. It's estimated there are about 2,000 acres of commercial peaches this year
While some have already been picked, Virginia's peak peach season is mid-July to Labor Day.
State officials say farmers markets in Virginia Beach are among the locations where Virginia peaches will be available. You can find out where to get them where you live on the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Website.
