Consumer Minute:Amazon's growing, Visa's profiting & you could be benefitting

Some good news for Visa that could have an impact on your bottom dollar.   Visa, the world's largest processor of debit and credit card payments, saw its profits jump 26% in its fiscal second quarter.  Visa's results are closely watched because they provide a look at the buying habits and financial health of consumers.

Amazon, which has registered higher sales in all of its major product lines, announced its first quarter net income rose 32% from last year.  The online retailer still generates most of its revenue by selling electronics and other goods online, but sales of media items, including digital files, are growing rapidly.

Many fast food chains have been complaining about how this year's extreme winter weather has had a negative impact on their  business, but not Starbucks.  The company announced sales at its stores, that had been open at least a year rose 6%.   In the last quarter, the coffee giant says it has earned $472 million.

Taco Bell is set to open a new "fast-casual" restaurant soon.  The first US Taco is scheduled to open this summer in California. Don't look for 99 cent tacos here.  The new venture will sell tacos for as much as $7.
