Cooking admittedly is not Suzanne Drgon would be the first to admit that cooking isn't her strong suit.
But she agreed to spend time in the kitchen to check out the new Saran disposable cutting sheets. These sheets claim to be the easy way to cut out the mess. The company claims they can even be used right on the counter.
But Drgon didn't want to take chances of cutting into her countertops, in case they didn't work.
First Drgon tested the sheets by cutting a juicy tomato.
"It completely soaked into it. Right now, you can't even feel it on there. It's all soaked in," she noted.
Then it was on to cutting cucumbers then a juicy kiwi... all on the same sheet. It held up, or rather soaked up all the juices.
But she knew she'd have to change the sheet because she wasn't doing veggies and fruits. Just like cutting board concerns, she got a new sheet to cut chicken. That was instead of having to clean a cutting board between food groups.
Drgon knew throwing the chicken sheet away got rid of most of the germs, but the chicken wasn't just on the sheet.
"Since my hands were covered with potentially salmonella, I picked up the pad and I would not feel comfortable using this without washing it. So in effect I'm still washing my cutting board," she felt.
So after all that cutting, what does Drgon think of the cutting sheets?
"They definitely work. It would just be a matter of personal preference. I don't think it entirely replaces your cutting board but why fill up landfills. It's just extra garbage."
