VIRGINIA BEACH - If you're looking for a good deal on items for children, look no further than two weekend consignment sales.
The community center at Ascension Church in Va. Beach is filled with things from double strollers to toys to clothing.
"It's for the upscale, for the everyday mom who's looking for the bargain. With the economy like it is, can't beat it," says organizer Paula Walter.
She's been running sales like this for 13 years and has hundreds of consignors.
Mara Bates is among them.
"I make a profit and I've clothed my children and I have two that I clothe before the season even starts, so I don't have to worry about when the weather changes," she says.
The items have been inspected to make sure there are no defects or damage.
"You rarely find anything for more than $10 and it's good stuff that you couldn't buy on sale out at the stores," notes Donna Hope.
If you're closer to Norfolk, head to Harvest Church for the Posh Baby Modern Consignment event.
"We really want to provide good quality things so you're not rummaging through trying to find a good deal," says organizer Angela Barrere.

She says consignment sales are the way to shop in these economic times.
The key to getting the best deals is to show up early.
