NEW YORK (AP) — VCA Antech Inc. said Monday it will buy a chain of animal hospitals and an online data and communications company for a total of $196 million in cash.
VCA Antech, a Los Angeles company which owns and operates veterinary hospitals and laboratories and sells premium and therapeutic pet food, said it will buy MediMedia Animal Health LLC for $146 million and pay $50 million for BrightHeart Veterinary Centers.
Through its Vetstreet business, Yardley, Pa.-based MediMedia Animal Health provides online communications, professional education, and marketing solutions to veterinarians. VCA Antech expects to close the purchase in September.
BrightHeart runs nine animal hospitals, including eight hospitals focused on specialty and emergency medicine, and one general practice located in Charlotte, N.C. VCA Antech said BrightHeart has about $53 million in annual revenue.
One the deal is completed, VCA Antech said it will have about 540 animal hospitals in 41 U.S. states and Canada.
