NORFOLK (AP) -- Virginia Port Authority executive director Jerry A. Bridges is leaving at the end of October.
The chairman of the authority's Board of Commissioners announced Bridge's departure on Thursday. It's effective Oct. 31.
Board chairman Michael J. Quillen tells The Virginian-Pilot that Bridges' move is a career decision. He says Bridges wants to do other things.
Bridges declined comment.
He has served as the authority's executive director since February 2007.
Quillen says Bridges helped guide the Port of Virginia during a difficult period resulting from the global economic slowdown.
The board plans to name an interim executive director.
