VIRGINIA BEACH - Soon the lights will be on, but first the new Whole Foods store on Laskin Road needs the people.  The company held a job fair Wednesday at Courtyard by Marriott at the Va. Beach Oceanfront.

"We had more than 500 applications turned in and we had a line this morning meeting us," said Whole Foods marketing team leader Maria Miglioretti.

The specialty grocery store needs 150 employees.

Sara Corrie, who is retiring to spend more time at home with the kids, says the 20-percent employee discount is a reason to apply.

"I'm just so excited about all the possibilities that are going on with this company," she notes.

AJ Long just likes the company.

"I can find work elsewhere, but there's something sort of romantic about Whole Foods," he states.

"We don't consider ourselves a healthy grocery store. We have only organic and natural products in our store, but you can still get chocolate in our store, you can still get cake and bakery items," she explained.

The job fair continues Thursday, but you have to fill out a form online before going there.

The store opens at 8:00 a.m. on October 24.
