VIRGINIA BEACH - San Diego-based Green Flash Brewing Co. says it's locating its first East Coast brewery in Virginia Beach.
The $20 million facility will be located on nine acres at the northwest corner of Corporate Landing Pkwy. and General Booth Blvd. in Corporate Landing Business Park.
Construction will begin next year with a 2015 opening. The plant will be able to produce 100,000 barrels of beer a year. It will have a 4,000-square-foot tasting room and a nearly one-acre beer garden. The project will bring 41 full-time jobs with average salaries of $33,000, excluding benefits, officials said.
Company and city officials took part in ground-staking at the site Thursday afternoon.
“The Mid-Atlantic region provided logistical advantages,” said Lisa Hinkley of Green Flash. “Virginia is a great place to do business, has a developing craft beer culture, and Virginia Beach felt like home.”
On-site retail sales are projected to be $1 to $1.5 million annually, company officials stated.
